Stake Your Claim

It’s one of those quintessentially Alaskan activities – where any resident with grit and determination can make their wilderness dreams a reality.  The Department of Natural Resources Remote Recreational Cabin Sites staking program provides a chance to stake and purchase a remote parcel of Alaskan land.

This unique program kicked off Monday, August 21st, and will close at 5 p.m. on October 13.  The drawing will be held on November 1. Drawing winners will receive an authorization to stake their own parcel within the two staking areas .

Department of Natural Resources Resource Specialist Justin Wholey: “There are two areas they can chose from.  One is in the McGrath area on the Kuskokwim River, the other is Mount Ryan II which is about 50 miles north of Fairbanks and that’s accessed by ATV trails.”

You may submit applications in person, by mail, or online. Free brochures describing this year’s Remote Recreational Cabin Sites offering are available  online  or in print from DNR’s Public Information Centers in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Anyone can subscribe to the DNR land sales email notifications via the land sales website.  Follow the land sales program at facebook.com/AlaskaLand/ and twitter.com/AlaskaLand4Sale.
