Silver Salmon Arrive On Cue For Seward Silver Salmon Derby


Saturday is the start of one of the oldest and largest fishing derbies which happens to take place top coho salmon landing site in the state. 

Competitive anglers will be making there way to Seward, hoping to hook the tagged silver salmon and reel in a $50,000 prize.

The 62nd Seward Silver Salmon Derby sports over 40 different prizes and categories to win, including six tagged fish.

Derby tickets go sale Friday night between 6:00-8:00pm, but all must be validated saturday morning prior to leaving the Seward Small Boat Harbor. The derby runs through August 20th, and tickets for the full event are $50.  Daily tickets are $10.

Most importantly, the ocean going shine of the coho salmon is lighting up the boundaries of Resurrection Bay.
 
Cindy Clock, Executive Director of Seward Chamber of Commerce: "They are in, in huge numbers. We are seeing a lot of really nice silvers brought in, and by the way things are going it looks like they are going to hang around for the Derby to.”

Proceeds from the Coho turned in support Fish Enhancement programs that benefit stocks in Resurrection Bay and fisheries scholarships for graduating high school students.
