Kenai Pioneer Dick Morgan Passes Sunday

Kenai Pioneer Dick Morgan passed away Sunday, August 13th.  Morgan was the last living member of Kenai’s Charter Commission. He served as vice chair, and cut the ribbon at the dedication of Cornerstone Rock memorial.

At last night’s Kenai City Council meeting, Mayor Brian Gabriel made a proclamation honoring Morgan and recognizing August 16th as Dick Morgan Day.

Kenai Mayor Brian Gabriel: “For those of you who didn’t know Dick, he was a very personable person, and I don’t think there were to many people that met him that didn’t walk away considering him a friend.”

Morgan volunteered his time serving on the Kenai City Council and was president of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce.  He owned and managed Morgan Steel, built the Kenai Golf Course, and was a publisher of The Peninsula Clarion.

Dick Morgan and his wife, Shirley moved to Kenai from Colorado in 1952, and raised three children on the Kenai Peninsula.
